Historical Archive
The story of the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank is not merely a sequence of events having led to the creation of a cooperative organisation. It is part of the modern history of Limassol in the post-World War II, which the Administration felt the necessity to keep by creating Historical Archives to inform the people of Limassol about its history and activities, making it also available by speculators for research purposes.
Initially, the gathering, recording and scientific archiving of all available historical material, including inter alia old banking documents and books, a variety of items, the original antique furniture, audio-visual material, various schemes as well as personal testimonies of people, whose names are linked to the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank’s history and the cooperative movement in general.
There are thoughts that in the future some worthy historical materials are to be exhibited in various premises of the Organisation, presenting in a modern way the history and the achievements of the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank, as well as its multi-aspect contribution in the town’s social, cultural, charity and sport-related events.
As from 1st January 2008, the entire project has been undertaken by our fellow-citizen, art historian (MA) Loukas Gregoriades, Cultural Heritage Conservation Consultant and researcher of the Limassol history.
