Historical Archive

Historical Archive

The story of our establishment is not a mere sequence of isolated events leading to the creation of the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank. Rather, it is part and parcel of the modern history of Limassol in the post-World War II era. Feeling compelled to preserve this piece of history, we created a Historical Archive, which will not only inform the people of Limassol about our history and activities, but can also serve as a potential source for research.

The first phase of this project involves the gathering, recording and scientific cataloguing of all available material, which includes, among other things, old banking documents and books, a variety of items, authentic contemporary furniture, audio-visual material, designs and also the personal testimonies of individuals whose names have become inextricably linked with the history of our establishment and the cooperative movement in general.

Moreover, thought has been given to the possibility of putting on exhibit certain historically significant items, enabling visitors to view the history and achievements of the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank and its multifaceted contribution to the city as well to the community in social, cultural, charity and sports affairs.

Since 1 January 2008, the project is being supervised by art historian Loukas Gregoriades (MA), a researcher of Limassol history and an advisor to the Preservation of Cultural Heritage Board.
